BIOGRAPHY
After more than 20 years as the rhythm section in Håkan Hellström’s band, Labbe Grimelund and Finn Björnulfson formed Bongo Riot GBG, an unholy alliance of drums, percussion, and electronic rhythms. Blending live beats with electronic sounds, the duo creates a genre-defying sound that fuses influences from Manchester, Rio, and Gårda.
The idea for Bongo Riot GBG was born after a late-night after-party during a summer tour. “We realized we’d get withdrawal symptoms if we didn’t keep playing together,” Labbe recalls. What started as a desire to carry the after-party vibe into something more permanent evolved into an electronic ceremony led by the most devoted disciples of the party gods.
Their music mixes Manchester disco, indie samba, and housey-afro, drawing comparisons to Basement Jaxx and Safri Duo. Bongo Riot GBG brings chaos, ecstasy, and pure energy to the dance floor, with a sound that excites both body and soul.
